Sketchbook 8

I've started an 8th sketchbook and thats gotta be some sort of Guiness record, or something. Probably more like a Beast-Lite record. Eh... humor me. Its late. Anyways, here are the first set of marker sketches / drawings from it... enjoy?

Oh, FYI, its also over on my website too. Chiggity check it out.

Website Updates

Whelp,

Check it out! www.AaronConnolly.com

I finally got around to putting a new face on my main gallery / portfolio website, and I think it helps get folks engaged in some of the stuff I've got out there.

The pictures on the home page are just some that I selected from the random Galleries I have put together, in hopes of (ahem) drawing you further into them.

Please feel free to hop around and shoot me an email if anything does not work properly, or your wacky mac browser coughs up (its probably a programming issue on my part). Otherwise, let me know what you all think.... I'd love some feedback. Love it? Hate it? Think its lame? Hollar at me.

Sacrifice

In my opinion there is no greater sacrifice. His sacrifice has given my life meaning, and without Him, I am nothing. Without His sacrifice, I am nothing.

Skyline

I'm struggling with this Illustration Friday assignment. I considered trying to draw the Nissan Skyline automobile, but I thought, "nah, thats lame." Then I thought of doing some sweet image of Luray Caverns or something from back home in Virginia, that is somewhere near Skyline Drive... anyways, I settled on another tree sketch:

Kinda a plain... get it? 'Plain'? hi ho!

Ear Tuck

I'm not the most fashionable guy, and I can put myself together in the morning and not look like a complete fool, but there are some fashion trends I just don't understand, and some that look down-right uncomfortable.

For some reason, dudes around here tuck their ears under their ball caps, some dudes are nonchalant about it and buy oversized hats, others just force their ears underneath their hats even if their hat is too small.

Sticky

Enough lame Car's product ideas: better late than never with the Sticky sketch for Illustration friday I guess. I hate it when I get bubble gum on my face piece. Its the worst thing ever.

Cars Windshield Shade

Alright, here's my official plea for an official Cars Windshield Shade. I'm sure this is already in the works, because those nifty folks at Pixar don't let anything slip by them, but here's what I would like my truck to look like when I put a windshield shade in my car. Imagine how the kids would laugh! Eh...

What would your car look like?

Want to do it yourself? Start with the template I created.

Trees

I really like the trees out west. Some are quite different from the East coast. Here are some more tree studies. Whatchya'll think ?

Ooodles of Doodles

Alright ya'll. I'm going to bombard you with some crud from my sketch book and recent train rides. Note that most people are sketched from behind or the side, or only loosely because they gave me stink-eye while trying to draw them.

For the most part they're done quickly and ordered chronologically below. What do you think?

Rain

Took me a while to get something together for "rain" as I had a great friend from back home move out here last week. I'm stoked for him and he's having a good time thus far.

The inspiration for this comes from being a kid and not being able to do what you want to do because of stinkin' rain. Just a quick drawing, and once again a lack of perspective:

Dance

I can say, with out embarassment that I have been here a thousand times. Its taken a while for me to get comfy cuttin' a little rug. But now that I've got a few moves up my sleeves, weddings, home-comings, and bar mitzvahs no longer make me nervous.

3 Trees

This is for a teeeny, itty bitty personal project of mine: Katsushika Hokusai's wood block cuts and Asian art in general kinda kicked off the itch to start something in the effects animation realm.

On the Train Again

More Train stuff. A tree, a couple old dudes, some hands, and everyone wearing glasses:

(I realy like the sketch below of the guy on the right. I don't know why but its my favorite out of many. He just sort of leaned on his hand this afternoon, and had this bushy head of hair and had a hoodie on. I didn't have long to jot down what he looked like, but for some reason this one just sits will with me.)

More Train Sketches

Here are some more folks from my train:

(A hand study of a guy across from me, as well as a quick bike sketch)

(Folks wear head phones alot, seems now adays people just don't "talk" anymore)

(Older folks are freakin' amazing, I don't care what the experts say, I like wrinkles and, if anything, its a sign of wisdom. You're supposed to look like that, so why fight it?)

(Lawyer guy crashed out after a grueling day at the office)

Trees

I can't get over how awesome all the trees and shrubs are out here. There such a diverse set of trees and bushes and grasses out here, and along the highways, that I just get all revved up to try and draw trees. I'm terrible at drawing them so thats why I try and make them look like some Eyvind Earle abstract background art.

Train Folks

Two more folks from the train. The fella wore his glasses pointed down on his face, and they were huge glasses like Harry Carey used to wear:

Jungle

I went to Catalina this past weekend for a camping trip and had a blast, and I am lagging a bit in the Illustration Friday assignment for "Jungle". I went with a Jungle Book theme-d idea, and went kinda for a Jumanji (sp?) flavor as well. Anywho, this is what I came up with, so let me know whatchya think:

Train Sketches

I've been taking the train for a few weeks now and its rad. Save money on gas, truck maintenance, and I get to relax for a little while before and after work. Can't beat that.

I try and sketch the folks on the train but its freakin' hard cause no one sits still for longer than 10-30 seconds or so, unless they've conked out from a grueling day at the office.

Here's what I've done recently. Lots of hands and quick lines and such:
